When you live in the northern latitudes where frost and snow have long since murdered all blossoming outdoor flowers, it's such a treat to visit the southern Pacific coast and find everything in bloom during December. Just a few clicks north of Mexico, the town of Coronado is alive with flowering plants in gardens, and containers along the streets, and in the wild along the beach. It is such a different environment there, not just socially, but, too, climatically, with warm sunny days and cool evenings tempered by the surrounding bay and ocean. To live there would be as if in a dream. It's quite clear why folks choose to visit then stay there. And just over the bridge is the burgeoning mainland city of San Diego and its sprawling county, with its cultural and culinary diversities. But, like most dreams, it has come to an end and I find myself back in the cold and snowy inversion of the real December.
